The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will debut on October 26, teased with the screaming sound of a flat-twin V8.
A new American hero is set to be born.
On Friday, General Motors released a teaser video of the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, announcing that the car will debut on October 26.
The teaser video shows the sound made by the powertrain of the new Z06 as it travels from the Nürburgring to the Circuit de la Sarthe circuit. Judging from the sound heard in the video, the Z06 does indeed feature a flat-crank V8 engine (like the Ferrari-like ones), which sounds very different from previous street-legal Corvettes.
This will likely be the 5.5-liter flat crank V8 fitted to the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R race car. In the C8.R, this engine makes 500 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, despite regulatory restrictions. It will be mated to a six-speed sequential transmission. In the Z06 street car, this engine makes 625 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque with the plugs removed; an eight-speed automatic transmission or dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, and a manual transmission is not offered.
Redline is expected at 9,000 rpm, and the sound will be even more intoxicating.
The overall stance is wide, and the bulging rear fenders are expected to cover the huge 345mm rear tires (the standard C8 Corvette has a maximum rear tire size of 305mm). Prototypes have been spotted with 275mm tires up front, and some with sticky Michelin Sport Cup 2 R tires.
The interior of the Z06 was introduced for 2019 with two large red buttons on the steering wheel labeled "Spec Mode" and a sketch with carbon fiber instead of leather on some surfaces. The digital instrument cluster in the sketch is also depicted as a race track, which may be a feature intended for use on different tracks.
Stay tuned for more news on the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 ahead of the American supercar's debut this fall.
