Livian is ahead of Tesla in terms of warranties
Electric vehicle startup Rivian, which is gearing up to begin delivering its R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV this summer, has released details of the warranty customers can expect.
There is a comprehensive 5-year/60,000-mile warranty on the complete vehicle.
And there is an 8-year/175,000-mile warranty on both the battery and drivetrain. Rivian also guarantees that the battery will maintain at least 70% capacity for eight years.
In addition to this, Rivian offers an 8-year/unlimited mileage warranty against body panel corrosion.
The warranty on the standard range of Model 3s is limited to 100,000 miles, while the warranty on the other Model 3 variants and the Model Y extends to 120,000 miles.
Rivian's comprehensive warranty is superior to the standard 4-year/50,000-mile warranty offered by Tesla.
Rivian, which is considering going public through an IPO, initially unveiled the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. The vehicles will come in special launch edition guise offering a 300-mile range, with prices starting at $75,000 for the pickup and $77,500 for the SUV.
The regular version will arrive in 2022, with prices starting at $67,500 for the pickup and $70,000 for the SUV.
