Dodge Finally Offers Charger in Gold Rush Heritage Color
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the original Challenger muscle car in 1969, Dodge introduced a special 50th anniversary version of the modern Challenger a few years ago, offered in a handful of retro colors, one of which was an exclusive shade called Gold Rush.
Last year, the color became available in more Challenger variants, and now Charger fans can join the fun too.
Dodge announced this week that buyers of the 2021 Charger can order the car in Gold Rush only on the R/T, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Scat Pack Widebody, SRT Hellcat, and SRT Hellcat Red Eye variants. They must also have the Charger's satin black hand painted hood, roof, and trunk lid.
Gold Rush is one of seven retro colors currently offered on the Charger. The others are Frostbite, Hellraisin, Cinnamon Stick, Tor Red, F8 Green, and Go Mango.
For the 2021 model year, the Charger is also available in the 797-hp SRT Hellcat Red Eye grade. This super muscle sedan will run the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 203 mph.
Other changes for 2021 are minor: 20-inch wheels will be added as standard equipment on the GT AWD and SXT AWD, and SRT branding will be added to Brembo brakes on some higher-end models.
As for the future of the Charger, we will have to wait for a redesign. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (now Sterantis) revealed last year that more derivatives of the current Charger and related Challenger and Chrysler 300 models will appear in the coming years. This will likely buy time until a successor without a V-8 engine can be developed.
